I am planning to fly from Maui to the Big Island in December (1-way ticket). Was hoping someone could help me out with two questions:

1) If I book on Hawaiin air it appears that I can opt to receive AA miles. Will this very short flight also count as a segment for elite status qualification?

2) Can I use AA miles to book the flight? If so, how much does it cost (I see posts on here stating 5K, others saying 10K)
