could you clarify exactly what kinds of points redmeptions you are looking at to calculate the value? Merchandise (ipods, TVs etc), gift cards, airline/ hotel frequent flyer programs?

Its widely accepted (in these parts, at least) that it is not usually the best value to redeem your points against catalogue merchandise items and instead it is almost always better value to transfer your points to frequent flyer/ guest program to redeem these for flights/ upgrades etc...

The value (depending on the airlines and the type of redmeption you do) can be far greater if you do some research into the best Airline carrier programs in your country....
