Those that view the announcement yesterday with cynicism & suspicion of what's to come down the pipe at us later on when further details are announced.
True there was some good news on the redemption front in yesterday's announcement, but I cant help but feel that we are being buttered up with the good news, to ease the impact of the bad that may be on the way. It won't be all give on BA's part without a fair percentage of take too. Companies in general always put a positive spin on things to mask the negative & I think there is as much not being said, as there is being said.
Things that have come to mind include the following......
* The cessation of the Household Account !
* While they have said that tier levels will be unchanged during the change, they've not said anything about renewal, so I have to wonder will there be a re-shuffling of TP requirement combined with the possible introduction of a Bronze tier !
* From reading the
"Giving you more recognition when you fly with us" line, I'm wondering is that increased recognition going be based on the introduction of a two tiered redemption system coming into play, whereby Blues / (Bronzes) will be required to spend more miles on redemptions & MFU's than Silvers & Gold. More recognition for Silvers & Golds but done with a slap in the face for Blues / (Bronzes) !!
* While the reduction in redemption spend required for East Coast U.S flights is certainly welcome, I'm very cynical about the further ramifications of that move......... less Tier Point earning on revenue flights to the East Coast ???
Realistically, we have to sit & wait until BA release further information on the changes afoot, in order to see the full picture. But the drip feeding of information, with the first release being on the whole positive & generating goodwill from a lot of BAEC members towards the changes, really smacks to me of a buttering up exercise. So I have to wonder will all those who are feeling somewhat celebratory at the moment, have a very different outlook when the details of further "enhancements" to the program are made public.
I guess so it's a case of
"Watch this space (albeit nervously)"........
