If there is an available seat for sale, you can book it with an AAnytime award. That is the premise of the program. If you are being told otherwise, the agent is mistaken. Even if the flight is oversold, if we are willing to sell a seat, you can use an AAnytime award to get that seat we are willing to sell. It is literally any time, all times, as long as we are selling a ticket for that flight. It is booked in Y inventory, so it follows the rules of Y inventory, except for the upgrade policies of full fare Y tickets. Coach mileage tickets are not upgradeable.
