I am a frequent business traveler that is Hilton Gold (will be diamond in the next couple of months).

I am thinking to myself that Hilton may want to adjust their tiers to be more like the airlines (also have status with a major airline). This will help reward those who are road warriors better and try to create more loyalty.

Currently after 60 nights or 100k base points and you are Diamond. I personally stay in hotels over 125 nights a year. A person who travels for 5 days a month (1 week) over 12 months is Diamond while someone who travels 15-20 days a month (3-4 weeks) is at the same diamond level competing for similar upgraded rooms / services. To get to 100k base points in less than 60 nights you need a rate greater than $167 per night - per my calculations.

The real reason I would suggest another tier is for Hilton to try and get more loyalty from clients. At the 60 night level (28 stays) many business travelers will stay 60 nights (or 28 stays) at Hilton and 60 nights at another chain (Marriott, Hyatt, Westin, etc...) so they can have status in multiple programs.

I would propose something similar to what the airlines offer but with 4 - 5 levels:
Blue - 0 - 14 nights (under 30,000 base points)
Silver - 15 nights, 10 stays, or 30,000 base points
Gold - 30 nights, 20 stays, or 60,000 base points
Platinum - 60 nights, 35 stays, or 90,000 base points
Diamond - 90 nights, 50 stays, or 120,000 base points
maybe even offer another level for those who stay 150 nights or have 180,000 base points.

I would think even non-business travelers can easily get to 60 nights / 28 stays just with weekend trips, infrequent business travel, and booking 3 weeks of vacation time at Hilton properties.
Actually , not a bad idea as long as Hilton has clear distinctions between levels. Overall, I think the "proposed" levels maybe a little tough...50 stays?? I normally just stay at 1 hotel during the week that I travel. Factoring in vacation and holidays and downtime (and towns that have no Hilton properties), there's no way that I'd travel 50 weeks out of the year. But good suggestion!
