The idea was to court the discretionary spending Canadian [family] with fares that were low and simple. The business traveller comes into the picture by being able to buy a seat [when available] one way or return for much less than the mainline, closer to flight date. For example, have to be in Calgary for a hastily-scheduled meeting on Tuesday, back next day. Tango still has seats those days, and they are 1/4 the price of a mainline return at full fare. [Both TANGO and WESTJET charge higher fares closer to flight time, just not as high as AC.] In that case, TANGO makes sense -- or WESTJET -- for the business traveller.
This will work with a low or mid-level sales or exec staffer, but a senior level person will still opt for, or be permitted to fly, AC in full fare or even J. AC banks on this equasion to ensure its prime high-yield customers will not be syphoned off to TANGO or WEST JET.
