There is no need for a loyalty plan when there is no competition - an obvious savings in a monopoly. So, you ask, why does the LCBO give Air Miles? To snoop. AP provides a way to track your habits and this can be sold or used for marketing. Since AC has been criticized for this, the value of AP is further reduced to them. I agree the comparison with Walmart is unfair. Traveling on Air Canada seems like a visit to Zeller's - you can fill in the details.
