It is different, but the first thing is that codeshares *are* allowed with the OWE, it just needs to be with another Oneworld carrier. For example, you could not take the AA codeshare to Japan on JAL but you can take the codeshare to Santiago on Lan Chile. It comes in handy occasionally for people who fly in coach and want to claim miles and it has come in handy many times for me regarding availability. Specifically, there was one time that I had to come back SCL-LAX and there was no availability on the LA code but there was on the AA code.

Second, the Global Explorer allows codeshares on Air Fiji, Gulf Air, and Air Pacific. Most or all are on American or Qantas. I can't think of any others off hand. It also allows more limited codesharing with NF/PX/SA/TN/VN/SB and Swissair. But those are a bit more specific. The first have to be with Qantas only and the Swissair is only with British Airways.
