of course it brings some inconvenience, but:

1) Forward your call or make an announcement on your voicemail (I prefer the first way which is not more expensive than incoming roaming)
2) get yourself a second triband-phone, on ebay from GBP 15
3) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Simple-Mobil...ht_1630wt_1163 as a microsim or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brandnew-Sim...item35a8d742ca as a regular sim, so even cheaper than official retailers in US. You can activate the simcard online the day of your departure, top up $ 50 via CC and: There you go!

At the end you save a lot of money + have the good feeling of "unlimited". Some years ago you could get the same directly from t-mobile for less than $ 20, that was a PERFECT deal.
