I'm a big opponent of regulation in general, but I think it ought to be outlawed to market a flight as "direct" if it involves a plane change. From the user standpoint, there is zero difference between a "direct" flight and a regular connection.
I agree on all counts. The only reason they put a single flight number on a connecting flight involving a change of aircraft is to make it appear to be a more convenient option, when in fact there is no difference between it and a similar situation with different flight numbers. I think it's a "truth in advertising" issue.
