The 'continuous forward direction' only means the direction between continents. Eg. you couldn't do Australia->North America->Australia, but Australia->North America->Europe->Asia->Australia is OK. Backtracking within a continent is allowed (Except for Hawaii). Correct on (c).. you could stopover in SYD on your outbound and MEL on the inbound for example. So if you are buying a RTW in Hobart to Dallas, with stops in Miami and Chicago you could have a routing something like: (x is stopover) HBA-SYDxLAX-DFWxMIAxDFWxORDxDFW-LHR-MELxHBA. Hmm. Actually that routing would put you over the 26k mile limit (if including all stopovers). HBA-SYD-LAX-DFWxMIAxORDxLHRxMEL-HBA is 26017 miles.. they might cut you some slack.
