Officially, AA stopped providing early boarding for families with small children many years ago, but I sometimes (once or twice a year) hear gate agents permit early boarding "for families with small children or anyone needing more time."

Never really affected me, being top tier and/or flying in the front cabin with the kids - we got to board first anyway.
