For me, it all boils down to this: whether we like it, or not, we are all in this together. Unless you choose to stop flying United altogether, we are going to be in the new United Mileage Plus, not the old Mileage Plus and not the old OnePass. So, all of this b*tching and moaning and negativity towards the old CO or UA and each other's FFers, is only a mildly interesting exercise.
Contrary to what Mr. Smisek says, there are going to be a lot of changes that we don't like as FFers. Most of them are going to done in the mindset of what is expedient for UACO, not for what we would like. The executives had a great opportunity to take the best of each company and build the "world's leading airline". (And, yes, I believe there are good things about both.) I don't think it will happen in large part because the execs don't really understand themselves what it would take to build such an airline. Maybe, I'll be pleasantly surprised.
When all of the dust settles, it'll be up to each of us to make the decision whether to stay or go. I've been there, done that, several years ago when I changed airlines because of a degradation in a FF program. Haven't flown that airline since and am happy with my choice to move to UA.
As an aside, I have had only one mildly unpleasant experience with a UA staffer in the last several years. Everyone else has been fantastic. I'm a firm believer in, "you get what you give". I, also, believe that if someone is having constant bad experiences, they probably need to look within. I just have not experienced what so many others have. I have flown some on CO lately, dealt with FAs, reservation agents, OnePass agents, lounge staff, gate agents, etc. All nice people, but far superior to UA staff? Nope. For example, UA FTers love to bash UA FAs for hanging out in the galley and socializing. I've seen it myself and it doesn't really bother me because I'm not one that expects to be waited on hand and foot. Recently, I was on a domestic CO flight and the 3 FAs hung out in the forward galley for the last 45 minutes. Didn't bother me because I didn't need anything, however, I was somewhat amused because I know that some CO flyers would bash UA FAs if they would have noticed this on a UA flight. If I would have wanted something, I would have gotten the attention of one them and not stewed over the " new low in service".
Bottom line, if you want to make constructive critical comments, in addition to posting here, maybe you should forward them to the UA executive suite, also. Otherwise, all this sniping at each other is just p*ssing in the wind.
