I had a pair of flats when Nike Air first came out, and before they were adopted by Cole Haan. I still mourn that they wore out as they were so cute and so comfortable. I may have to check Cole Haan now. Thanks for the tip.
(To add to my previous posts I just purchases two more pairs of Birki for about 20 Euro each on Amazon.de, and I am drooling over several of the new fall styles of GEOX. I did manage to break in one pair of the Aerosoles but I find them rather clunky, and they don't seem to be holding up well compared to my GEOX)
I also purchased about 10 pairs of Talbots flats for $10-20 in their clearance section online this summer. They are no longer the quality of the Italian made shoes they used to sell, but are very cute and quite comfortable for shorter days. I wore them for my commute recently which was about 15 minutes walking plus short train ride plus 15 minutes walking, then to work all day, and the reverse commute at the end, and my feet felt fine. I wouldn't recommend them for all day sightseeing etc however, but as an inexpensive pair which pack well I could suggest them.
