Some interesting perspectives are being expressed here, and I'd prefer not to weigh in to the discussion itself, but rather to point out that a relief service has been laid on. I'd call BA and see about getting out from New York tonight. If it returns straight away, it will land at JFK around 1900 and won't turn around in less than two hours, 2100. Plenty of time to get to Kennedy, if you can get a seat.
