You must have been unlucky at the desk with this employee. I often pick up a BP here and often change the one I have been given at my departing airport for a more perferred seat. I have always found them very obliging. As others have said you should get your BP at YYZ but don't think twice of requesting it at the EI transfer desk at LHR or requesting a seat change.
