I am visiting Australia right now. Should I buy a OWE before April 15th, to get a lower cost and more possible segments?

My concern is that I won't have my actual itinerary worked out by April 15th. I suppose I'd have to book a fake placeholder itinerary, and pay a change fee later once I work out one I will actually use. But you can't change the first segment, right? I guess I could book the ticket through Qantas or AA in Sydney, which would be a better idea? Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, buy your ticket before April 15th, and you the current rules will apply. You can leave the entire thing open provided you book your first international segment. It will be a reissue fee after that if you make any routing changes (date changes can be made with a simple revalidation).
