When I travel with my wife (admittedly not too often), I always booked the two aisle seats in the same row. That way we're close enough to be able to converse and yet neither one of us have to move to the middle seat if we tried the window-aisle combo. Leaving 2 seats empty beside you is imo going to get filled..
Usually, groups travel at least 2.. if a party of 4.. then 2 and 2 sitting forward..
If you take a window and an aisle, that leaves a single party that can sit beside you.. and being the middle seat, it will be very unlikely picked off, unless its a full plane..
