I've rented a compact from Avis (out of Reykjavik's domestic airport) for nine days (9/8-9/17) for $452 (taxes included). I'm using my JP Morgan Select VISA to provide primary insurance coverage. Booked this on the Avis website with a USAA discount code. This doesn't seem bad to me, but I'm not sure what fuel prices will be like.
We won't be driving off road, so I wasn't concerned about getting 4WD or AWD.
