You'll need to pay to either have the flights for the one passenger cancelled (miles redeposited) or to change to another passenger. Your only way out of this without fee would be if there were a significant schedule change or weather/mechanical issue that would jeopardize the other passenger's chance to make the original flights.
Given the weather issues on the east coast, if your flight is in the next week and via or to the east coast, you should be able to get the points refunded free of charge.
