Yes, this is true. I did inquire with Michelle (previous official rep on FT) about this abuse/loophole, but she said that LH has procedures in force to prevent this from happening. But I suspect many airlines still have this open loophole in their systems. Take HX (although not a *A member) for example, I hold Gold status with them and accidentally entered my card no. into a family member's booking (I wasn't flying with this family member and note: entirely different name apart from surname), it still showed up as "Gold" and was offered a lounge pass at check-in.
