Looks like that price was too good to be true. I think you pretty much have to pay the going rate. Iceland was affordable shortly after the depreciation but prices have readjusted to what it was before. You do need a car to get around outside Reykjavik. I rented from Sixt early last year but their prices are the same as anyone else. You could try Europcar too.
