And the only way I figured it out is because I ended up getting stuck at Gold when I thought I should have been downgraded to general member in Feb of 2009.
And the purpose of this thread was the same as the purpose of all the other inane threads that spawned that whined about this program change. I am getting tired of the whining and entitlement.
Ditto. I didn't know about these programs until early this year. I had no problem grabbing a 75k deal from Citi but everything else was flying. I guess LTG for me is good but I expect annually qualifying under PLT for a long time anyway. And even if I retire my travel patterns will change - but I'll still be at or near PLT each year.
Out of curiosity I did a drive-by on the UA consolidated thread today where all hell is breaking loose on some rumored changes that have a minimum revenue requirement along with miles or segments for annual status the MR guys don't like. AAdvantage looks pretty good by comparison; in fact a lot of them are vowing to bail for AA.
About 9 yrs ago when UA was restructuring I probably had 300k on UA and 30 on CO, maybe 200 on AA. I decided to concentrate on AA from that point forward. Well, UA survived and I've had little travel with them until last year but AA has treated me pretty well. I though it might be interesting to see if UA had Elite Match and a 90-day target for my wife and they do. After all, if I was now LTG on AA why not ck out UA and start her traveling there again?
One of my AA issues has been crappy ECoast and Upper Midwest connections. The UA interactive map confirmed that I could go direct from DCA or IAD to CLE, BOS, ORF, and also MUC across the pond. But not ATL, MSY or some others I've wished had direct service lately. I wish I could get to MUC w/o humping thru LHR to a BA segment. But I decided none of this was enough to give up on AA and perhaps 200k more qualifying miles with the current bonus, from trips by coincidence I need to make in the next 3 months.
So AAdvantage is pretty good. With a couple of more routes to my liking and retaining the elite bonus; it would be perfect even if I was just getting started on Lifetime status.
Also-AMEX PLT gets me in the Admirals' Club and that fee washes with the AC annual. Can't do that in the UA Red Carpet Clubs.
