Yes -- they put me on the next flight (which ended up getting delayed 3 hours... so instead of arriving at 3 pm I arrived at 8:30pm)

I did not volunteer and was unhappy that I was delayed since I was trying to make opening ceremonies for a conference I was attending. The cash (and subsequent ice cream I bought) eased the pain a bit.
