I've posted before how this BBC film is very close to becoming reality (It also played in America on PBS and I believe plays on the PBS channel on YouTube)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/lastenemy/welcome.shtml

It's a cautionary tale about technology, with identity cards, biometric tests and armed police becoming an everyday presence in our lives.

"It's predictive, rather than science fiction,
because CCTV cameras and loyalty cards mean we are already being monitored."

Peter Berry explains: "Stephen Ezard had always taken the British democratic process for granted, something other people took care of. But when he tries to uncover the truth behind his brother's death, he discovers that his civil liberties have been so seriously eroded, his investigation makes him an enemy of the state.
I have to agree with both points below. The presence of surveillance cameras disturbs me. Today I read that at Walt Disney World they are even inside elevators and are monitored to 'protect' guests.

The backlash against Google Streetview in Germany and other countries is heartening.

You know that UK has many more surveillance cameras than the USA, right? They also have face recognition software. And you know that in the UK the police has more rights than in the US?

I personally think that Germany and France with their national identity cards are freer societies than the US.
