Now, let's pick LAX-IAD as a route that starts in Los Angeles and is just over 4100 miles (4560 return) plus should have plenty of flights. Tonight, for instance, catch UA986 out at 10:41pm (just in time for bed), then sleep 'til you arrive at IAD (6:30am local time), have a quick snooze in the RCC before turning around to catch UA556 back to LAX, getting in at 10:30 in time to get into work a bit late.
Booking far enough in advance you can do this route for, like, $300 return in economy, so it's basically just like renting the world's least comfortable $9000-a-month apartment.
Doing it the cheap way, you should be able to hit three million miles in just 658 days, for a grand total of just under $200K. If you want First Class you'd better make it $1 million.
