Hmmm, I've never been asked. I'm guessing it might be related to the amount of stuff that is carried. I carry it through in a backpack that also has charger, a Flip, a small p&s camera, BT keyboard for the iPad, and some documents. Maybe you have more stuff you are carrying through.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time for me, but I enjoy not having to take it out now.
