JetStar - can I standby?

I have a ticket CGK-SIN-BKK leaving Fri night 26/8, with a 10hr stopover in SIN before flying SIN-BKK at 10.40am on 27/8. Flight time changes are allowed for a fee.

However, JetStar won't allow me to change the second leg of my flight on 27/8 (SIN-BKK) to an earlier flight leaving at 7.15am, even though there are seats available, because it says I have to change BOTH legs of the flight to be allowed any change.

This strikes me as ridiculous since I only want to change the second leg of my flight, but JetStar is forcing me to change both legs (which I cannot do as all flights on the first leg are booked out for three days). Congratulations, JetStar, you've just lost out on ticket change fees and inconvenienced a customer.

I'm thinking I should just try to ask for the earlier flight SIN-BKK after I arrive in SIN. Does anybody know or have any experience if JetStar would allow this?
