Uhhh. Are you mixing up lounge benefit with baggage benefit?
I am pretty sure I was never allowed to check one guest as luggage.

I have reacted on the spot and didn't take time to developp it as it should have been.
Extra weight allowance depends on carriers and this will be good news to have something straightforward for everybody.
As for the bag allowance, it only makes sense with low cost carriers and American carriers. If you forget about the LCC which are not parts of alliances, you are just questionning Delta ; all other ST members allowing passengers to check at least one bag at no charge.
So the real question was just about Delta, which so far allowed free checked baggage for all E+ passengers, no matter what FFP they belonged too.
I got accustomed with ST to the following principle : when an improvement is announced, take the most restrictive meaning of the announcement, and make it the new rule.
So now, when I read : "Weight concept – 10Kg extra for Elite members and 20Kg for Elite Plus members" and "Alliance-wide harmonization", I conclude the following : all members will now allow 10/20 kg and that's it.
In other words, Delta will not (now take the restrictive meaning) waive the fee for checked baggage for E/E+ members. IF you are entitled a bag, you'll get 10/20 kg extra. If you are not entitled a bag, you will get nothing, no matter what's your status.
Maybe I am paranoid : Skyteam being the best and most generous FFP program ever, why should I be worried
