My classic mistake: eUpgrade fare class ignorance

Well, the title says it all. I messed up, and am the only one to blame. Let this little note be a lesson for those who might make the same assumption as I did (and am now paying the price).

My silly assumption: Assumed that with eUpgrades that if you were willing to pay the points associated with upgrading a fare class that you could now upgrade any flight on AC. No more of the SWU/SSWU junk to messs around with.

My painful reality: Note that while there are now 12 different categories of eUpgrade point classes that the list is NOT/NOT comprehensive (does not reach down to Tango). I told my mother to buy a specific ticket and then went to eUpgrade her only to have the system tell me that her fare class is not appricable to upgrade. I had foolishly assumed that it would simply be the highest cost in points, but in this case the fare class isn't even listed... yes, it's a Tango fare.

Lesson: Never assume that your fare is one that can be used with eUpgrades, check first the fare class. And yes, I neglected to click the 'show fares available for upgrade' button becuase I assumed I could just 'pay the points' for ANY fare class.

I know, I know. My fault.
