Mainly travel for leisure, but make own travel decisions most of the time even for business.

I think TG ROP is a better choice for you. However, you will need to fly 50K miles for Star Gold. But, the benefit of that is that you will hopefully get better seats on your long haul flights on TG and an occasional upgrade or two. You will get an upgrade voucher on TG for being Star Gold, which you could use on your LAX flight.
If you doubt you will make 50K miles, then A3 (aegean) needs only about 19K miles to get to Star Gold. That will get you lounge access through the system, but not get you better seats / upgrades, etc.
SQ's Kris Flyer program is traditionally not a great program for low volume flyers. It favors high dollar / high volume flyers. So, I suggest you put your miles elsewhere other than SQ.
