I don't know the answer to your question, but if you are traveling to an Amtrak station that offers checked-baggage service, you have the option of dropping the bags off the day before, and checking them through to your destination at that time. (It doesn't matter if the particular train you will be traveling on does not have a baggage car; as long as your destination offers checked-baggage service, you can check bags.)
