OMG Worst stay ever at Westin Resort Maui - SPG cancelled membership as their choice

Gold member - 5th night free award booking. Tried to stay on points at the end of July at the Westin Resort Maui. The day after check-in there was jackhammering two floors directly above us. Guest relations explained that ongoing renovation of the hotel was going on and management wanted to stay on schedule despite being high season.

Told that construction would be 8 to 5 every day. I went up to the 10th floor and sure enough they were renovating four rooms. Of course we were not informed when checking in and a five year old cannot stay in the sun all day but basically we had a room only 5pm to 8am each day.

About half the wing was inconvenienced and they had no ability to put people in other rooms. So bad we had to check out and pay for a room at another property. Our compensation, waiver of resort fee and 10,000 points credited to our account despite using 48,000.

Contacted SPG customer care and then guest services replied that the construction was an emergency but would credit another 10,000. No credit ever showed up and I recontacted SPG customer care as instructed if I was not satsified with the outcome. I asked that they take care of the experience of just go ahead and cancel my 10+ year membership and donate the points to charity.

Apparently my points went to charity after only asking for the property or Starwood to do the right thing... So much for customer loyalty as my earned points only came from stays...
