"The status showing on my boarding pass has always been enough to get me through."

That's been the case for me if it's Continental/United running the priority line. At a few places in Canada, Air Canada let me in their Priority line, but only on presenting my actual (Silver) card, not just the boarding pass. Try to bring your actual Elite Card with you, just in case.
