That is unfortunately not correct. Your passport will be scanned by the UKBA officer, checked under a UV light, and various other measures. Takes 30-60 seconds, so not slow on its own, but a bloody nuisance when there's a big queue.
Due to construction works, the blue and green channels feed into the same exit at LGW South, but there is very rarely any random UKBA stops there — vast majority are profiled/targeted.
This may be one of the few occasions when I don't warn people off the Gatwick Express
