Really? Just tell them that you moved to the States since you said that US address is not a problem and that you want to do a lot of flying on a US carrier. Your choice would be between UA and AA . This should be convincing enough.

Very true. You need 10,000 points to hit Platinum which is easy. Also the qualifying flight counts as double miles. After this you will get an extra 100% on all qualifying miles flown.
