What's silver really worth?
I have already earned top tier (A-List Preferred and Companion Pass) on Southwest through all of 2012 and am deciding if I want to move most of my business to Delta for the rest of this year. Delta works out pretty well for my routes, which are all domestic. I fly about 90-100 total revenue segments per year.
I can easily make Silver by end of Dec, but probably not Gold. I certainly don't know the ins and outs of Delta, but what little I think I know tends to make me believe that Silver Medallion is worth about as much as a bucket of warm spit, what with all you Diamonds and Platinums and Golds already out there.
Earlier this year I had accumulated about 110,000 SkyMiles (big woo, I know) but after much trying, I was unable to book 2 SkyMiles Honolulu tix at the published 42,500 mile low tier cost. I finally gave up trying and cashed them all in for prepaid AmEx cards at 0.9 cpm.
Will someone in the know tell me what, if anything, is Silver actually good for. TIA.
