consequences of PM + GM Splitting PNR on Award

Assuming you are allowed to split the PNR:

Situation 1

Let's say a PM books self + GM on domestic Y award with PM's miles

and

PNR is split to optimize chances of at least one UG

Can either/both tickets still be changed/cancelled (before T-72h) for no fee?

Any other consequences to doing this?

Situation 2

If it were an international Y award, could both companions still get free EC if PNR were split?

What if EC was selected for free and then PNR split, would GM be booted from EC or forced to pay up?
