Strange. He just seems to gently lose height.
"Smoke On" obviously obscures any indications of puffs of other smoke from the engine, but it could be a compressor stall. In a relatively gentle manoeuvre like that? No perhaps not.
"One of the local farmers said they'd seen rescue teams pulling the pilot out of the river."
