I've never looked at it from that angle. I/we are just comfortable if the family P&L account remains broadly flat [after considering inflation].

In any case, as we invariably MFU from WT+ to CW, the air ticket is a small proportion of overall cost. For our usual trips that's:
51% Accommodation
20% Air tickets [for 2]
16% Food and Beverage
13% Car rental
