Rules for taking animals on a BA flight.

My cats are going to mount mutiny on me, so I am thinking of taking them with me to NY in Sept. My questions are:

1- Would they be quarantined if I pass by LHR?
2- Better go through LHR or take Open skies from Orly?
3- Would I get help in carrying the cats?
4-I don't want to put them in the hull, I want them next to me, can I have 2 cats in the same cabin?
5- Do I need to buy them tickets?

And why do I have a deep feeling that I might be getting some funny suggestions...

Any info would be appreciated?
I know that I have to check on health rules etc etc..
