I used the 100,000 miles for two economy tickets from the US to the UK. Poor use to some, but two economy tickets over Christmas would be ~$2500. $1000 in taxes seems a good deal in comparison.
Of course its good! There are UK peeps who need 5 years to put together 100k miles, and you do it with a 5 minute card application. Fundamentally, whinging on this thread is the equivalent of whinging about how little space you get for a £3m house in London, how hard it is to find a good butler these days or how you have run out of space for your Picasso collection. In general, most of us don't want to hear it!
