As a Brit living in the US I think the chase offer is pretty good, even with the taxes.

The Visa Signature card gives some good benefits on it's own.

I used the 100,000 miles for two economy tickets from the US to the UK. Poor use to some, but two economy tickets over Christmas would be ~$2500. $1000 in taxes seems a good deal in comparison.
