To chime in: The old Delta International F service was wonderful. The seat, in those days, was a big recliner-type that had less pitch than today's BE (55" versus 60" today in BE) but it was wide and nicely padded with a really good tray table. It would be frowned upon as inferior today because it didn't lay flat, but at that point in time it seemed quite comfortable.
The thing I remember most was the caviar service: Generous in quantity, with all of the normal accompaniments, along with vodka. At one point, the wines were exceptional as well (still remember the 1969 Barolo being served at one point around 1995).
The best flight I ever had, to this day, remains LAX-HKG in 1995 on the MD-11 in F. Fabulous crew of three FAs (for the 18 seat F cabin that was about half full) who worked nonstop the entire flight. You couldn't place an empty wrapper on the tray table without one of them swooping in to pick it up.
It was really a special sort of experience.
