Your experience seems to be a problem for Asian travellers flying into YVR. Honesty in answers doesn't seem to make any difference to the petty power-crazy bureaucrats.

I get around it by flying into the nearest U.S. airport( SEA for me but prefer arriving from outside the U.S. at small international airports such as PIT) and taking a bus from there (much laxer customs).
