I also live in BJ and AA miles are my single most prized airline currency, in spite of the fact that they are easy to amass. I fly UA and CO out of necessity for work, but when redeeming awards, I'd much rather do JL or CX in F (in spite of the connection, though I try to avoid connecting in HK between PEK and the US or Europe because that is borderline insane).
