It seems like I learn something new every day... all these years flying back & forth between North America and HKG and I never knew about this UA flight between HNL and NRT! Same day connection possible to my favorite CX flight between NRT and HKG, as well (if I want to wait two hours to skip UA's service).

In any case, I think I'm going to do this routing myself next time... I've always been interested in putting a Hawaii stop in between North America and HKG-- now I know how to do it w/o getting my face ripped off!

The suggestion proffered by drbala will be much better than any of my proposed suggestions (unless you're planning a lot more stops than you've mentioned).
