This way of thinking seems counterproductive and punitive. I suspect that many are not helped to perform at their best by the "I pay you, so now work" approach. That may be because, as a public sector employee, I work because I love what I do and think it's important. I'm pretty sure it's not for the pay, which would be much higher in the private sector.

Given a choice, I'd rather be on flights where the FAs are there because they love doing the job and interacting with pax, and have a sense of what constitutes great service. --and where the passengers participate in that, rather than in implied threats about employment. Seems like once you've gone there, the atmosphere is poisoned and you've missed out on the chance for great service.
