As a Platinum member you are not entitled to the best room available, such as an executive room. That type of upgrade disappeared almost 20 years ago from the T&Cs.

midnight has posted, the T&Cs allow a hotel to assign a room based on location only, and as determined by them.

The spirit of it is surely that you should get some sort of upgrade where they have something available. Frankly whatever the small print says I think it can be worth making a fuss.
