The MO JKT has just underwent a complete revamp and now looks brand new. Yes, the ceiling is indeed a bit low but I think the room quality makes up for it. It has the best rooms among all the hotels in Jakarta, with all the modern conveniences.
Kempinski is also brand new and has a better location since it is connected to the Grand Indonesia Mall with lots of shops and restaurants. Service is however not up to the other 5-star hotel standards. You need to chase to get things done. Don't bother with the club rooms, the rooms are the same as the standard rooms and the club lounge is a joke.
Ritz Carlton - There are two Ritz Carltons in Jakarta, one in the business/embassy district of Megakuningan, which is the traditional grand and opulent Ritz style. Rooms are very nice although the hardware is no longer cutting edge. It has a fantastic club lounge, covering an entire floor. The other Ritz Carlton is at Pacific Place, again connected to the mall. It's a boutique hotel and has the largest standard rooms in Jakarta starting at 70m2. All guests have automatic access to the club lounge included as a standard benefit. The rates are also correspondingly the highest. You can't go wrong choosing either one.
Both the Four Seasons and Shangri-la are long-in-the-tooth old, and the rooms are definitely not as nice and modern as the abovementioned hotels. The Four Seasons rooms especially are in desperate need of renovation. They still feature old style bath fittings and antique CRT TVs, the last time I visited the hotel. It does have a very nice pool though, and the Shangri-la has a nice cafe which serve good breakfast and buffet lunch/dinner.
You might also want to consider Mulia hotel. It's a local 5-star but up to International standard. Rooms are classic style and comfortable. The hotel also have 5 restaurants, with the Italian Restaurant and the 24hrs Cafe consider among the best in Jakarta.
Dharmawangsa is highly rated by the locals. So presumably a good choice. Can't say much cause I haven't stayed there before as location is a bit out of the way.
I agree with the earlier poster. If you intend to just stay inside the hotel, then it doesn't matter much where and just choose which hotel is most to your liking. But if plan to go out to visit places, then choose one that is located near to where you want to go. The traffic jam in Jakarta is a killer ( not kidding ).
